According to an internet statistics website , adoption of the internet in all parts of the world is still
very much on the rise. Africa and the
Middle East have had increases of more than 1000 percent over the past 8 years.
While having recorded the most growth by percentage of their populations, their
internet users only make up 6.6 percent of the total internet population.
In North America, about 73 percent of the population
accesses the internet on a regular basis, representing the highest level of
penetration in the world. Although internet users in this region only represent
5.1 percent of the world’s total internet population, online media are proving
to be highly effective in reaching various market segments here.
Thanks in part to the loosening of Chinese restrictions
recently, Asia’s internet population growth has reached 363.4 percent since
2000, and now represents 56.6 percent of the world’s total internet population.
Though only 14 percent of Asia has begun using the internet regularly, adoption
is expected to grow exponentially as the region opens up to globalization
efforts.
Internet penetration in Europe has reached 47.7 percent.
Growth here is also expected to continue as EU members work together more
collaboratively, and partnerships build with other regions throughout the
world.
It seems the "Internet Age" is just getting started.
